The fig & the faun

At Fig & Faun we think that the most beautiful things are those that juxtapose the rough and raw elements of nature with the clean and finished glimmer of glass, and precious gems and stones.

The fig and the faun symbolically represent this juxtoposition.

Faunus was the Greek god of the forest, plains, and fields, and had the legs of a goat and horns. Faunus eventually with Pan, the god of shepards. Contradictory to Faunus, the fig fruit represents gluttony, desire, and vanity. In Greek and Roman mythology, figs are associated with Dionysus, the god of wine and drunkenness, and with Priapus, a who symbolized desire. According to Buddhist legend, Buddha achieved enlightment while sitting under a fig tree.

The fig tree remains a symbol of enlightenment.

We hope that your Fig & Faun pieces may represent and remind you of nature's beauty every day you wear them.
